Sandy Thompson, known professionally as The Studio Muse, is a contemporary fluid artist whose work embodies the harmony between spontaneity and intention. With over three decades of experience in visual communication and design, she brings a refined eye to the unpredictable beauty of fluid acrylics and mixed media.
A Massachusetts native now based in South Carolina’s Lowcountry, Sandy draws inspiration from the region’s shifting coastal rhythms — translating the ebb and flow of the sea into luminous, layered abstractions that shimmer with depth and emotion.

Artist Statement
At The Studio Muse, I create moving fluid acrylic paintings that celebrate coincidence, energy and curiosity. By layering house paint, tube acrylics and dry mica pigments mixed with water-based mediums, I pour, swipe, spin, and guide the flow of color to form luminous compositions rich in texture and movement. Each piece evolves through an intuitive dance of hide and seek and manipulation—culminating in dynamic works that invite the viewer to pause, feel, and connect. Inspired by the sea, the earth, and the spirit of artistic wisdom, my goal is to awaken a sense of luminous rhythm and dimension. Many of my paintings are embellished with brushwork and fine detailing to bring forward structure and story within the abstract flow.
I absolutely love the freedom and spontaneous nature of my practice, as you’ll often find a representational series of whimsical florals or landscapes in my portfolio! However, as I continue to evolve as an artist, I’m driven to experiment with the edge of control and spontaneity, refining techniques that reveal the mastery and discipline of fluid art and its artists.
